Behind Dewdrop Tiles is Rocío Paniagua, a Chilean-born architect living in Denmark, with more than 20 years’ experience with architectural consulting and sustainability in construction. The company it is named after Rocío, which means “dewdrop” in Spanish. Rocío’s inspiration is the fantastic nature surrounding her on her island home of Bornholm - a small Danish island located in the Baltic Sea.

Driven by her creativity and a passion for materials, Rocío has been crafting mosaics for many years. The decision to create a livelihood based on mosaic tile design stems from an architectural vision: Rocio saw an unrealized potential in how high-quality materials, like ceramic and stone tile scraps, are throw out every day to end as gravel. Rocío needed to act and decided to give them a new life as artistic tiles.

That is how Dewdrop Tiles merges the ancient mosaic tradition with the Nordic tradition for functional interior design in the home in a sustainable way, contributing to global goal #12.5 "Substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse."

Dewdrop Tiles’ materials are sourced locally, in a partnership with construction companies on Bornholm. The materials we use in our designs are chosen carefully, with a focus on quality and durability.
