The famous Danish furniture architect Børge Mogensen created some of the most recognized classic furniture pieces during the Danish "Golden Age of design" in the 1950's and 1960's. He studied at the School of Architecture at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he was teached by the renowned professor and architect Kaare Klint. Like his teacher, Børge Mogensen became very focused on creating functional and durable furniture adapted to the human body.

Børge Mogensen was inspired by the distinctive Shaker style, characterized by plain lines without any unnecessary ornaments, but with focus on pure craftsmanship and high-quality material. Wood was his favorite material, and he was very fascinated by the natural characteristics of the tree. In 1958, he designed the BM1 and BM2 chairs together with the world-famous SHAKER TABLE for Løgum Kloster (Løgum Monastery), and the inspiration from the Shaker style is quite visible.
