“I come from the word of composit materials. I know in depth their proprieties and potentialities, I have worked with them for a long time, with applications in automotive and aviation R&D departments. Later on, the desire to experiment and explore new horizons has brought me to test these materials in an environment that’s less prone to rigid industrial standards, and more fit and open to concepts as shape and aesthetical purpose: the world of design”. That’s how Frédéric Morand tells the tale of the birth of the brand SAINTLUC: the new proposal in the world of furniture, able to combine design, technological research, artisanship and eco-sustainability. “By replacing fibreglass and carbon fibre with linen fibres, I have created a new natural process, which I like to describe as a “union” between the soul and DNA of SAINTLUC creations: a precious alliance between strength, resistance and elegance.”

A composite material is made of the intrinsic union between the strengthening fibres and a matrix (either a resin or a thermoplastic material) with the task of keeping the fibres compact. The strength of a composite material depends only from the nature of the strengthening fibres. It took three years of constant research to have a perfect control over the production of the linen fibre, and to obtain a light and performing composite material, renewable and recyclable. Linen is the perfect natural solution for the substitution of the glass fibre. Even though the mechanical features are similar, the linen fibre is twice as light, but most importantly needs one tenth of the energy that glass fibre needs for it production. These production processes, implemented by SAINTLUC, are the result of a wise harmony between the most advanced technologies in the composite world, and the savoir-faire of master artisans.
